Outreach Events
Help us have a friendly and knowledgeable presence in the community at a wide variety of tabling events. Lend a hand at earth day festivals, local street fairs, and at open houses for other nature organizations on the weekends. Representatives of TNC provide information about the nature center, our programs, and sometimes sell raffle tickets. Volunteers need to be able to carry and set up a card table and folding chair.

Raptor Care
Adult volunteers are needed for a one to two hour weekly commitment to help care for our Barred Owls and Red-tail Hawk. This job entails care, feeding, cleaning and maintenance of the aviaries. It is a messy job and you must love birds!

    Land and Facilities Management

    Gardening and Maintenance
Join master gardeners and other volunteers to help maintain our native plant gardens and landscape plantings. Gardeners will keep our bird feeders filled, plant, mulch, weed, and trim as they maintain and beautify this space for the public enjoyment and educational programs. Our garden is a Master Gardener’s approved site for volunteer hours.

    Natural Resource Management
Help keep our trails looking good by removing invasive plants throughout the property. Join other volunteers on our annual boundary walk where you will help pick up litter around the nature center property edges.

    Reforestation/Habitat Restoration Projects
Help keep our habitats healthy by removing litter throughout the preserve, excess vegetation from Pfister’s pond, and assisting staff with other restoration projects.

    Trail and Property Maintenance
(Interested volunteers should contact the New York/New Jersey Trail Conference to learn more). Handy individuals with light carpentry skills are needed to help keep our trails looking good by distributing wood chips, repainting blazes, and repairing broken signs.

    Data Entry/Office Assistant
Volunteers are needed to perform many administrative duties including mailings (stuffing, labeling, sorting etc.), data entry, filing and the delivery of our promotional literature to various locales in the community. Individuals with a cheerful, friendly attitude, professional and efficient, great communication skills, and experience in customer service help welcome visitors. Greet hikers, show off our exhibit animals, answer phones and questions about the nature center. This is a great opportunity for those interested in learning more about wildlife, meeting new people and being a tremendous help to our staff.
