Pavilion & Campfire Rentals

Tenafly Nature Center rents the Education Pavilion & Campfire Circle to its members for meetings, workshops, or parties. The facility is suited to small low-key events: adult groups and children’s parties with a maximum with a maximum of 50 people.

Education Pavilion

  • Dedicated in November 1999 it is a 30-foot by 40-foot open-air structure containing eight recycled plastic lumber picnic tables, four of which have wheelchair extensions.
  • Used for school, scout, birthday, and public programs throughout the year.
  • Has accessible concrete floor and walkway.
  • Five lights line the walkway and there are nine pendent lights inside for evening use.
  • Additional outlets are available for approved equipment.
  • Roll-down Sunbrella┬« cloths are available on three sides to keep out inclement weather.
  • A large covered fireplace is available for use (with staff supervision)!
  • A wheel-chair-accessible water-less composting toilet is next to the parking lot and just 90 feet from the pavilion. This clean, eco-friendly facility is augmented by two other flush restrooms on the ground floor of the John A. Redfield Building.

Campfire Circle

  • A rustic spot in the woods 150 feet southeast of the parking lot and Pavilion.
  • A stone fire circle, ringed by nine recycled plastic lunber benches.
  • Can accommodate a maximum of 30 people.
  • For forest protection, safety, and insurance reasons, fires are permitted only with staff supervision.

Campfire or Fireplace Use

  • Fires permitted only with staff supervision.
  • Includes firewood, setup, and fire cleanup.
  • Optional s’mores supplies available. Kosher options available upon request!
  • In the event of inclement weather campfires are available utilizing the covered fireplace.
  • Fires are prohibited elsewhere in the preserve!

Individual Use

Individuals and families wishing to enjoy the trails and not reserve a space exclusively are welcome dawn to dusk everyday. You are able to use the picnic tables in and/or around the pavilion whenever they are not in use by a TNC program or reserved group.

Please contact the Event/Birthday Coordinator via email or call (201) 568-6093 for any interest in the use of the campfire ring and/or fireplace. We encourage all visitors to make a small donation (suggested at $2 per person), which can be placed in the donation box located on the porch of the visitors center.

Group Use

Reservations are required for all groups of 10+ people to avoid conflicts.

Groups of Tenafly Public School students and teachers, municipal groups such as the library, police, fire, or other officially sponsored borough groups, may use the facility without charge.

For all other groups not officially sponsored by the borough of Tenafly, you must be or become a current TNC member in order to rent any of the facilities.

  • Maximum group size is 50 people.
  • Reservations are limited to five (5) parking spaces in the parking lot.
  • Additional vehicles may park on Hudson Avenue and walk up the drive to the facilities. We encourage car-pooling.
