On Sunday, June 14, 2026, nearly 300 guests joined us at Tenafly Nature Center for an unforgettable celebration of water, wildlife, and community during Nature Day 2026: Every Drop Matters.
Despite one of the warmest days of the season, registered attendees checked in and spent the day exploring, learning, and connecting with nature. Fortunately, the preserve’s canopy of mature trees provided welcome shade, while a gentle breeze kept visitors comfortable as they enjoyed the day’s activities.
Throughout the preserve, families discovered the many ways water supports life. At Pfister’s Pond, visitors climbed into canoes and paddled across the water, experiencing the beauty of the preserve from a unique perspective. At the campfire ring, the scent of roasted s’mores drifted through the woods as families gathered to share stories and make memories.
Creativity flowed at our watercolor art station, where guests of all ages captured the beauty of nature with brush and paint. Animal encounters introduced visitors to some of our fascinating water-dependent residents, including frogs and turtles, while nature enthusiasts explored the newly opened Butterfly House, learning to identify butterfly species and observing them up close as they fluttered among the flowers. The 2026 Butterfly House officially opened during Nature Day and will remain open throughout the summer season.
A highlight of the event was the opportunity to connect with several outstanding organizations and community partners who shared educational activities, conservation information, and hands-on experiences. We extend our sincere thanks to the Teaneck Creek Conservancy, NJ DEP Division of Fish and Wildlife, Troop 86 of Tenafly, Sharks4Kids, and the Bergen County Academies Environmental Science & Engineering Club for helping bring this year’s theme to life and inspiring visitors to become stewards of our natural resources.
Guests also enjoyed refreshments from Conrad’s and Paper Street Coffee, whose ice cream and coffee offerings provided welcome treats throughout the warm afternoon. We are especially grateful to TVAC (Tenafly Volunteer Ambulance Corps) for being on-site and ready to assist with any potential emergencies, helping ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
Nature Day is more than a day of outdoor fun, it’s a celebration of community, curiosity, and conservation. This year’s theme, Every Drop Matters, reminded us that every stream, pond, raindrop, and action we take plays a role in protecting the natural world we all share.
As the afternoon came to a close and visitors headed home, they left with new discoveries, new connections, and a deeper appreciation for the importance of water in our ecosystems and our daily lives.
Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, sponsored, and supported Nature Day 2026. We look forward to welcoming you back next year for another day of exploration and adventure in nature.
