Scout Field Trip, Tnc To Go, and Remote Learning Program Policies and Procedures
Scout Program Policies and Procedures
  • The majority of our programs are held outdoors, drizzle or shine. Children should dress appropriately for the weather!

  • Participants should wear sturdy shoes or boots and rain gear when applicable.

  • Don’t spray insect repellent in our parking lot. Apply insect repellent to cloths at home.

  • No participants under the age of five, please.

  • Visit our Contact & Directions page to find us.
  • If the lot is full, participants should park on Hudson Avenue and walk into the center. Parking is not permitted in the cul-de-sac.

  • We suggest having your scout troop meeting time be set 15 minutes before the scheduled program start time.

  • Program start time can be adjusted due to lateness. Programs will end no later than the time listed on the confirmation sheet.

  • For Scout Programs, groups can expect to be greeted at the red building by an Environmental Educator.

  • If you arrive early you are welcome to walk on the trails or check in at the desk in the red building to wait until the program start time.

  • Behavior management is the responsibility of attendant adults, not the staff of TNC.

  • Troop leaders and attending adults are required to stay with and assist the group.

  • All participants are required to follow the Nature Preserve’s rules and guidelines.

  • Tenafly Nature Center practices the principles of Leave No Trace. If you plan to eat here, bring a trash bag for your garbage, and take it with you when you leave.

Many of the programs Tenafly Nature Center offers can be altered to meet the needs of participants with disabilities or those who require accommodations. We ask that you provide pertinent information about any disabilities and/or required accommodations within a minimum of two weeks’ prior to the program. This helps us provide a quality program experience for all participants.

  • A non-refundable deposit for a program covers 10 scouts. Groups of fewer than 10 are welcome, but the deposit charge is required to secure a time slot.

  • Additional scouts are a per person fee based on program length to be paid for the day of the program.

  • Leaders are always free. One parent for every 5 scouts may attend for free; additional parents and siblings are charged a per person fee.

  • It is the duty of the group representative to collect the fee from the participants and we will not accept individual payments from the participants.
