A New Way to Explore: Introducing TNC’s Interactive Trail Map
Visitors to Tenafly Nature Center will notice an exciting update to their trail experience this season. TNC has launched a brand-new interactive map system designed to make exploring the preserve easier, safer, and more intuitive than ever before.
Upon arrival, guests can now find QR codes posted at the information kiosks and Visitors’ Center. Scanning one of these codes brings visitors directly to the new digital trail map, accessible on any mobile device. Once open, the map offers real-time location tracking (with device location services enabled), allowing hikers to see exactly where they are on the preserve, no guessing, no backtracking, and no uncertainty about which trail comes next.
The interactive design puts useful features right at visitors’ fingertips. A “My Location” button activates a GPS marker that shows their precise position on the trail system. Turning on the legend reveals the meanings of the map’s symbols, making navigation clearer than ever. Users can also choose to display or hide different sets of icons, helping them create a decluttered view tailored to their needs.
One of the most helpful additions is the safety concern reporting widget, which allows visitors to notify staff about downed branches, trail erosion, or other issues directly through the map. This tool helps TNC respond to concerns more quickly and maintain a safe, welcoming environment for everyone.
For those who still prefer a traditional option, the trail map can easily be printed at home before visiting. Whether using the interactive version or a hardcopy, guests now have more ways than ever to enjoy the beauty of TNC’s trails.
With these improvements, navigating Pfister’s Pond, Lost Brook Trail, and the rest of the preserve becomes a smoother, more engaging experience, one that blends the joy of nature with the convenience of modern tools.
