Funding for our Forest
Tenafly Nature Center is honored to announce the N.J. Department of Environmental Protection and the Garden State Preservation Trust have awarded TNC a prestigious Green Acres grant for the next phase of the Pfister’s Pond Restoration Project.
The Pfister’s Pond Restoration Project is a significant step forward in fulfilling TNC’s primary mission to preserve and steward its public land. The first phase was completed in 2021 and consisted of hydro-raking to remove unwanted invasive species while preserving native aquatic life. This process and subsequent storms left much of the shoreline damaged and needing repair. This grant is intended to help repair the shoreline, continue the work of reestablishing biodiversity to the pond, and repair and reconstruct the main trail, making it accessible for any visitor who requires accommodation.
The Green Acres grant is matched by the Borough of Tenafly using funds previously appropriated by the Tenafly Mayor and Council for the purpose of the Pond’s restoration. Preliminary work on the project will begin shortly with a site assessment and will continue for approximately two years until work is completed.
