Intern at TNC: Discover Your Path in Nature
For high school teens and college students looking to gain real-world experience, an internship at Tenafly Nature Center offers a singular opportunity to learn, grow, and make a lasting impact. Whether you’re exploring a future career in environmental science, education, communication, nonprofit management, or simply love spending time outdoors, TNC provides hands-on experience that goes far beyond the classroom.
Interns at TNC become part of a vibrant community dedicated to conservation and environmental education. Depending on interest, students can immerse themselves in a variety of roles, including Animal Care, Education, Event Planning, Land Stewardship, Marketing, Non-Profit Management, and Student Educator internships. Each role offers meaningful, resume-building experiences, from caring for Animal Ambassador s and assisting with programs, to supporting stewardship projects, organizing events, or helping advance TNC’s mission behind the scenes. Interns gain practical skills, work closely with passionate professionals, and spend valuable time learning in the beautiful natural setting of the preserve.
This season, we are proud to highlight Alexandra Brown, a Senior at Leonia High School and one of TNC’s dedicated Land Stewardship Interns. “Currently, I am interning at Tenafly Nature Center as a part of my high school internship program. I come in every Friday and it has proven to be one of the best parts of my week. I get to learn about the natural world, converse with like-minded peers about environmental issues, and explore my passion for conservation. I hope to use this internship as a way to gain professional experience in conservation work and have fun in the gorgeous outdoors. If you’re looking for an internship, I highly recommend TNC!”
Her experience captures what makes interning at TNC special: learning new skills, connecting with peers and mentors, and spending time in a place where curiosity and conservation come together.
Internships at TNC are unpaid but offer invaluable professional development, community service hours, and the chance to build confidence and leadership. Students leave with stronger resumes, deeper knowledge, and a clearer sense of their future path, all while contributing to the protection of an important local natural resource.
To apply, simply go to TenaflyNC.org/employment/ and complete the application form for your level.
If you’re ready to learn, explore, and contribute to something meaningful, consider joining the TNC team as an intern. Your next adventure, and maybe even your future career, could start right here in the forest!
