Volunteering with Tenafly Nature Center

This spring TNC had many opportunities for individuals and corporations to lend a hand and support the community. Once again Tenafly Nature Center teamed up with the Tenafly Environmental Commission, Tenafly Green Team, and Tenafly High School Green to run an annual Trash-a-thon. This year’s event was a success as it brought 147 participants together to spend time removing litter that had been discarded around the nature center and Tenafly’s other green spaces. Their volunteerism ensures that our natural world is being left litter free and with only footprints.

Companies like Keller Williams City Views and Westfield Garden State Plaza encouraged their employees to spend time at TNC this spring and to give back. Working with our Land & Facilities Manager, Alex Braunstein, these groups removed many large bags filled with invasive plants and helped to plant native pollinator-friendly plants in their place.

Our Forest Defenders, which runs on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month, has also gained a steady flow of repeating individuals dedicated to removing more invasive plants so that we can encourage better biodiversity and a healthy environment.

They show us that everything you do has an impact, and you can change the world with even the simplest act. Their passion is inspiring and motivates us to do our best. Their dedication encourages us daily.
